My Story
I grew up in State College, Pennsylvania (go Penn State!) and became a Christian at a young age. My parents and extended family are Christians, and I grew up attending a wonderful church where I got a firm foundation in the Christian faith. Throughout elementary and high school I attended a Christian summer camp called “Summer’s Best Two Weeks,” which was very influential for me in making my faith my own. I decided to go away to college to study landscape architecture at Cornell University. While there I got involved with Campus Crusade for Christ and met my husband Henry! Between my junior and senior years of college, I took a year off to do an internship for a landscape architecture firm in Zurich, Switzerland. It was a great cross-cultural experience and helped me learn some practical professional skills as well. After graduating from Cornell, I moved to the Washington, DC area and started working for a landscape architecture and planning firm. Henry moved to the area at the time as well and 2 years later, in May 2000, we got married and bought our first house in Alexandria, VA. After six years in Alexandria, Henry and I decided to come on staff with EMI (after much soul-searching and prayer, of course!). EMI’s ministry so perfectly fits with our professional skills (since I am a landscape architect and Henry is an engineer), and we both desire to serve the Lord in everything we do. It’s been an extremely rewarding adventure so far!

Ministry Experience
I did some spring break trips with Campus Crusade for Christ in college, as well as a summer project with Crusade to Berlin, Germany in the summer of 1996. Henry and I both went on an EMI trip as volunteers to the Czech Republic in the Fall of 2002, and that is what began my passion for EMI and getting to use my professional skills to serve God. Since being on staff with EMI, I have led trips to Bolivia and Mexico, both of which have been incredibly rewarding experiences.
If God told me to live long term in a cross-cultural setting, the country I would chose...
I really have no preferences at this time - I enjoy traveling to various parts of the world and experiencing all kinds of different cultures.
