I still look back at my experience EMI as one of the only things I've done in life that I could return to, and invest myself completely in--and that gives me some reassurance, regardless of whatever I end up doing next.

For all of you prospective interns out there wondering "How real of an experience is EMI?," I have an answer for you. EMI is very REAL! Working as an intern in the summer of 2004, EMI was my first intern experience and first time in an office. I didn't know what to expect. However, I quickly fit in and caught on to the procedures that take place. I learned about all sorts of things like contingency plans and project scheduling. In fact, that was the first thing my project leader had me do when I returned from my project trip. Now that I am back in school, in my 4th year as an architecture major, I am realizing how much this experience has helped me. I was the only one in my Professional Practice class of 40 students to even know what a contingency plan was! EMI was also a great experience to further my professional development. I was able to work and acquire hours for the Intern Development Program (IDP). Now I am only one of three students in that same class who has started my IDP Record. I learned about the process of design from schematic design to construction documents and was glad to be a part of it all.

EMI has given me a head start on my career and showed me what architecture and engineering are all about. I would highly recommend the program to anyone who wants to use their skills to serve God and further the work of his Kingdom.

Obviously this summer has been more than an engineering internship. India is an amazing place to spend three months and I'll return home in a few weeks not willing to trade the experience for anything on earth. I believe that seeing the effects of this false religion will encourage me all the more to praise Chrst for the amazing, sustaining truth that the Spirit has instilled in our hearts and minds. We desire grace and mercy for others because of that which was granted to us: His ultimate offering of grace and mercy displayed on the cross.

God changed me, changed my life, and opened up my eyes and heart through my time with EMI. My internship gave me such a bigger view of the vast need in the world to hear God's message... and the vast need for workers to make this happen--to design and build orphanages, water systems, churches that serve people in the name of Christ. I, for one, am so thankful for the experience of an internship at EMI.
