Seminary Campus Design Project
Kenya Baptist Theological College
January 17 – January 31, 2007 (current range)
eMi Project 9055
Project Scope
The African church has largely grown as a result of the obedience of foreign gospel workers. Though many Africans are continuing that work by planting and leading churches throughout Kenya, many lack proper training as they lead churches with their self taught knowledge. Kenya Baptist Theological College (KBTC) desires to “develop persons in ministry to be Christ-like leaders who establish maturing, reproducing Baptist churches among all peoples of Kenya and beyond.” This is strongly emphasized since Scripture urges us to entrust this precious message to faithful men.
The Kenyan branch of the International Baptist Theological Seminary of Eastern Africa (IBTSEA) was started in 1974. KBTC is a result of some steps taken to meet the educational needs of churches throughout East Africa. In 1999, KBTC and Wayland Baptist University partnered for the purpose of training church leaders for varying degrees. Now in 2006 the school has upgraded as a fully accredited Baccalaureate in Religion.
Since inception over 600 Church leaders have graduated with various degrees. Though KBTC is striving to train as many leaders as possible, their current capacity is inadequate. There are over 3,000 Baptist Churches in Kenya, and the majority of the pastors in these churches have no formal seminary training (Hosea 4:6). Currently KBTC can only train up to 300 students and from this only about 75 graduate per year. This is a low number considering the obvious need. The KBTC Design Project is an answer to the prayers of the many struggling churches throughout Kenya.
This Project will expand and convert the existing school from a college to a university offering a wide variety of degree programs. The ministry has asked eMi EA to efficiently design their newly acquired 50-acre parcel of land. The campus will consist of classroom blocks, various administration and service buildings, dining facilities, male and female dormitories, and further relevant infrastructure needed to support such a sizable campus campus.
Come to Kenya and help us serve the pastors of churches here so they can better serve the Body of Christ in Eastern Africa. You will be richly blessed.
