Gariaband (Dist. Raipur), Chhattisgarh, India
Kamar Tribe Rural Development Project

Multi-purpose and Children's Hostel Facilities
5th-16th March 2007
eMi2 Project 8122

Original Project Scope
The Kamar tribe is one of the tribal groups of Chhattisgarh, a central-eastern Indian state. This tribe is un-reached and composed mainly of poor agricultural workers. The Kamars have been classified by the Central Government of India as a 'special backward tribe'. Since the 1930s the Baptist Mid-Missions has functioned as a charitable society in India with diverse ministries and functions as the India Field Council of Baptist Mid-Missions (IFCBMM). In addition to several other open branches in India , the Chhattisgarh field was opened in 2003 with its ministry centered in the Kamar tribe, in Gariaband, District Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

The vision for the Kamar Tribe Rural Development Project is to provide a platform for sharing the good news with the Kamar people by engaging in social and educational works among the community in association with an English medium school recently founded by one of the IFCBMM workers. In addition to evangelism, the project will also be involved in community literacy efforts, teaching, agricultural camps, and possibly medical camps in an effort to respond to the physical needs of the Kamar. Recently, 12 acres of land were purchased for the purpose of creating a project center in a village about 20km outside of Gariaband.

eMi 2 has been requested to come and assist the IFCBMM in its planning for the Gariaband ministry center. The project will involve site master-planning and conceptual architectural and civil engineering design for a community multi-purpose hall, staff housing units, and a hostel for 20-30 Kamari boys and girls. Additionally, since the ministry is intended to be self-sustaining with the lands available for farming, an agricultural consultation is also requested.

A visit to the old fort city of Gwalior in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh will likely be included as part of the return train trip to Delhi. Join us in Central India as we serve the Kamar Tribe!
