Project Scope
Only a few years ago, Sierra Leone emerged from a very brutal civil war that left the nation devastated and the people extremely poor. Joshua International Ministries, formed in 1998, is a multi-ethnic, interdenominational ministry devoted to Child Evangelism, Discipleship, Leadership Training and Community Transformation.

Since 2000, Joshua International Ministries has established a strong foundation of evangelism and discipleship for the children of Sierra Leone. They currently serve over a thousand children in six communities through their programs. Their focus is to forge relationships with pastors and churches as they implement age appropriate discipleship programs, Christian educational programs for children, and medical and dental care for children and women.

Their immediate vision - and the purpose of this EMI project - is to design multipurpose buildings in strategic communities throughout Sierra Leone that will be used as schools and medical and dental facilities. The schools will provide free Christian education to very poor children and those involved in child labor. The medical and dental facilities will provide assistance especially to women and children, in a village with no current facilities and where all the population lives on less than a dollar a day. They will also establish a feeding program for the children, as 95% of the children in Grafton are malnourished.

The land for this new project, though small (only about half an acre), occupies a rural hill with grass and shrubs and a gently sloping terrain. In order to best meet the needs and scope of this project, the EMI team will have to carefully plan the use of the site to accommodate this school that will serve up to 640 children! We’ll need a full team of volunteers to design this place – a place of refuge, a place providing life-changing education and medical care to the poorest of the poor. Come be a part of changing people’s lives forever!
