Original Project Scope
Tongu Youth and Children Evangel (ToYACE) was founded in 1988 by citizens of the Tongu Districts of Ghana who were concerned about how abject poverty in the Districts was affecting children and youth. They have successfully implemented an integrated rural development of education, vocation training, and evangelism. Over 1,000 people have received literacy training at basic, intermediate, and advanced levels. More than 40 youth have successfully completed the two-year vocational training program learning about baking, carpentry, farming, masonry, tie & die, soap making, dress making, and other income-generating projects. Grace Canada Inc., a registered and incorporated Canadian development and outreach organization is ToYACE’s primary overseas partner.
Farming is the most popular of ToYACE’s vocational training programs. Unfortunately, it has also been the least successful because of lack of water. ToYACE has obtained permission from both local communities and the South Tongu District Government to build an agricultural water supply system for the villages of Dendo, Feyito and Agorgbe. They asked eMi to prepare a feasibility study and conceptual designs for this project.
