Project Updates
June 14, 2006
EMI has just finished and delivered a report and drawing package to Binora’s ministry. The report consists of a feasibility study analyzing several alternatives. The proposed alternative consists of a 17.5-km long pipeline from mountain springs serving three villages of 6,000 people each. In 20 years, the population served by the pipeline will grow to approximately 32,000 people and cost less than $11 per person.

When the pipeline is constructed, it will provide a clean, consistent water source for thousands of people in the Gewada tribe. The pipeline will serve to unify the various villages in the tribe and also cause them to ask the question, “Who is this that brings us clean water, and in whose name do they bring it?”

Project Scope
Currently, the villagers of Gewada Town, Ethiopia, hike daily two hours each way to fetch murky, contaminated water. This poor water source has caused a myriad of health problems for residents and students in the town. The topography in the area is unsuitable for drilling a well, but several springs some 10 to 15 kilometers away hold great potential as surface water collection points.

The Geregema Church has requested eMi's assistance in studying the feasibility of a gravity-fed water scheme for Gewada Town. This scheme would likely consist of multiple spring boxes, a potable water treatment system, and distribution piping. They also need a wastewater treatment system. The completed feasibility study is a requirement for government approval of the project and will be a cornerstone in the ensuing fundraising process. The team will assess the multiple spring options, identify the best candidate(s) and design the needed pipeline and support facilities.

Won't you join us in helping bring a cup of cold water in Jesus' name to our Ethiopian brothers and sisters?
